The 65th Annual Tony Awards show was held on June 12 to recognize achievement in Broadway productions during the 2010-11 season.
Neil Patrick Harris hosted the ceremony, which broadcast live on CBS from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The show was held at the 3,000-seat Beacon Theatre on upper Broadway in Manhattan instead of its usual home at the 6,000-seat Radio City Music Hall, which had previously booked a new Cirque du Soleil show.
Two new musicals received the most nominations of any of the productions: “The Book of Mormon” received 14 nominations, and “The Scottsboro Boys” received 12 nominations.
Ultimately, “Mormon,” the irreverent musical comedy about two Mormon missionaries in a poverty-stricken Ugandan village, from the creators of the television series “South Park,” took home nine awards. Lead actors in “Mormon” Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells lost out to Norbert Leo Butz in “Catch Me If You Can.”
The show featured several performances from various productions, including Daniel Radcliffe and the cast of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” Sutton Foster and the cast of “Anything Goes,” as well as Reeve Carney and Jennifer Damiano from the controversial rock musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” which received no nominations.

I realize that you are in high school, but this is the perfect time for you to learn to “check your sources” in journalism. Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark received no nominations this year at The Tony Awards simply because it has not yet opened. It opens tonight, therefore is eligible for next year’s Tony nominations…:) It is really important that you not copy and paste from other articles unless you check the validity of the “source”. 🙂 Best of luck!
