As the summer winds down, everyone may still be jammin’ to their favorite summer tracks. From those by B.o.B. to those by Katy Perry, each of these songs had their own distinct feel; what brought them together was how every single one was climbing the charts during the hot months of June, July and August.
In case you do not own a radio, let me recap the top ten songs of the summer for you. Kick back and enjoy- you may even forget it’s the first week of September.
“Airplanes,” which hit number one on multiple charts, including iTunes’, was nothing if not 2010’s definitive summer jam.
It’s been on the Hot 100 for 18 weeks and peaked there at number two. Everywhere you turned your dial this summer, it seemed like this track followed. The song got massive amounts of airplay and is very deserving of the title “song of the Summer.” Years from now, movies set in the early 2010s will use this track to set the scene.
Posner, who wrote this track about a classmate of his, is succeeding with his debut album; his single has been on the charts for 16 weeks.
Slowly but surely, his song is sneaking its way up into higher and higher spots.
It would not be a surprise if it ended up at number one sooner rather than later.
Look for more major hits from Mr. Posner in the future. He’s certain to be cooler than you.
3. California Gurls- Katy Perry
“California Gurls,” the first single from Katy Perry’s brand new album Teenage Dream, has topped the charts for some time. Perry has produced two singles that are both currently in the top five of the Hot 100. With success comes some obstacles, however, as Perry was threatened to be sued by the Beach Boys, who, in 1965, released their hit song, “California Girls.” They based their claim on the fact that Perry used one of the lines from that song.
4. Riding Solo- Jason Derulo
“Ridin’ Solo” has spent 20 weeks on the charts, peaking at no. nine, however because it has been on the airways for such a long time, it is deserving of a spot on the top five songs of the season.
Everyone and their grandmother have heard this song at least seven times, so why not?
5. Dynamite- Taio Cruz
“Dynamite,” which peaked at no. 2 on the charts this summer was pulsating through everyone’s ears after the British born Cruz’s anticipated sophomore album, Rokstarr hit the digital shelves in mid June. The track was all over FM frequencies as it has been sitting on the top of the charts for 11 weeks.
