Get Him To the Greek (6/4)

Synopsis: In this loose sequel to “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” record company intern Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) must escort out-of-control British singer Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) from London to the Greek theater in Los Angeles. Obviously, this journey won’t be an easy one.

Why it sounds dope: Early footage of this one hasn’t been particularly outstanding. However, it also boasts “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” co-creator Nicholas Stoller. “Sarah Marshall” is without a doubt one of the best made comedies of the pat few years, and this one could have the potential to be as good.

Toy Story 3 (6/18)

Synopsis: The famous toys return after 11 years. This time, Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen) end up in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, leaves for college.

Why it sounds dope: Because the first “Toy Story” changed movies. And because “Toy Story 2” was actually the rare sequel that was just as good as (or maybe even better) than the original. Pixar’s track record is almost flawless to date, so it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see this at both the top of the box office, and even as an Oscar contender.

Inception (7/16)

Synopsis: Plot details have remained mostly under wraps. What is known is that the latest film by Christopher Nolan (“The Dark Knight”) takes place in a world where technology exists to get into one’s mind through dream invasion. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Ellen Page.

Why it sounds dope: It might not be a Batman movie, but Nolan is a master at other genres besides superheroes (see: “Memento”). Nolan is a master of the psychological and in a film about the inner-workings of dreaming, it’s hard to see him doing any wrong.

The Last Airbender (7/10)

Synopsis: The nations of earth, air, wind, fire, and water become involved in an all out war when the Fire nation unleashes warfare. Aang (Noah Ringer) finds himself as the last Avatar with the power to control all four elements. A M. Night Shayamalan directs this feature length film adaptation from the popular nickelodeon television show.

Why it sounds dope: M. Night Shayamalan is fresh off his terribly disappointing flick “The Happening,” but that doesn’t mean that “The Last Airbender” will be. “The Last Airbender” could be a much needed comeback for Shayamalan.

Cyrus (6/18)

Synopsis: Recently divorced John (John C. Reilly) meets the woman of his dreams (Marisa Tomei). Things seem to be perfect until John meets her grown son, Cyrus (Jonah Hill). Cyrus actually still lives with his mother, managing to be a part of every moment in her life. John must overcome Cyrus’ over bearing antics in order to find true happiness with Tomei.

Why it sounds dope: “Cyrus” doesn’t look like your average summer comedy. It looks a little bit like “Step Brothers” with a small dose of drama. Expect laughter, tears and some seriously good acting. “Cyrus” is an indie gem waiting to happen.
